Zodiac Midheaven Signs

The Midheaven (or M.C., medium coeli) is one of the four important angles of the birth chart. It's located at the top of the chart on the cusp of the 10th house.

Its elevated position in the birth chart reflects our social standing and reputation. Traditionally, it indicates our vocation, career, and purpose in life. The zodiac sign on this cusp shows the particular energies and flavor that our public face will take. The combination of planets in both the 9th house and 10th house indicate the kind of career we choose and how successful we will be.

But there's more to the Midheaven than just outward appearances. The M.C. indicates more accurately how others perceive what we project and the social qualities about ourselves that we are learning to trust. It also can indicate very personal or spiritual goals as well as career goals. Some astrologers believe that the M.C. also reflects how we react to stressful situations.

Midheaven in a Fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)

Fire signs are active, intense, and intuitive. At the Midheaven they look for a spiritual passion that explodes beyond all barriers and resistance is to being alive.

Midheaven in an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Earth signs are grounded, practical, and sensible. An Earth sign Midheaven wants to infuse idealism into the being, allowing them to aspire to spiritual as well as mundane kinds of things.

Midheaven in an Air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

Air signs are logical, systematic, and reasonable. At the Midheaven they desire to expansion of perception beyond all narrow opinions and limited understanding.

Midheaven in a Water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)

Water signs are imaginative, perceptive, and sensitive. A Water Midheaven seeks to imbue life with unity, dissolving the parts back into a whole. It means surrendering to the divine as part of life's journey.

Another factor that affects the interpretation of the Midheaven is its relationship to the planets in the chart, called aspects to the planets. When the Midheaven and a planet fall closely together (conjunction), this usually indicates the beginning of something new.
